Dans l'industrie, la question du ROI arrive toujours à un moment ou à un autre et c'est normal.
Une solution digitale peut être intéressante technologiquement, mais si son coût et sa complexité ne permettent pas de justifier l'investissement, le projet aura du mal à passer du stade de l'idée à celui de la décision. Dans le projet SCALE que nous venons de remporter, notre proposition présente un ROI de l'ordre de 24 mois.
Le ROI ne doit toutefois pas être regardé uniquement au moment de l'investissement initial. Une usine évolue et chaque évolution a un coût : ajouter une ligne, connecter un nouvel équipement ou faire évoluer une supervision peut devenir très coûteux si le système initial a été conçu de manière trop rigide. C'est pourquoi nous pensons qu'il faut regarder le coût d'une solution sur toute sa durée de vie, et pas uniquement son prix à l'achat.
Une architecture ouverte et évolutive peut coûter moins cher aujourd'hui, tout en évitant de recréer un nouveau projet demain. Le véritable enjeu n'est donc pas seulement de réduire le coût de la première installation, mais de faire en sorte que chaque évolution future reste simple et maîtrisable. C'est justement ce que nous cherchons à permettre avec notre approche. Pour y parvenir, il faut accepter une réalité : personne ne peut savoir exactement ce dont une usine aura besoin dans cinq ans. Il faut donc lui laisser des options.
